It’s useless in some ways, yes. Determining if something is likely well-made or not is a good use of it. That’s been the big disconnect between fans and critics post-disney. The critics see a bunch of well-made movies and TV shows and give them good reviews. The fans see stuff that does things with the lore they don’t like, and view that negatively.

At least Disney fired Lord and Miller. There’s no way those guys could make a well-reviewed, financially successful sci-fi movie. Especially one centering on the bond between a human and an alien who doesn’t speak English.
